- Pink Purple and Purple Pink Diamonds
In this section we will cover and explore all of the combinations of the Pink and Purple colors.
The pink diamonds with secondary tone of purple: purplish pink and purple pink diamonds. And the purple diamonds with a secondary tone of pink: pinkish purple and pink purple diamonds.
Like with other colored diamonds, these diamonds also come in the various known intensities such as fancy light, fancy and intense.
This combination is one of the most sought after colors. It is also quite unique. While in most colors, you usually have one color which is more dominant from the aspects of rarity, price and the public demand, the pink and purple colors are very similar - practically identical.
For the purpose of explanation we will look on another popular color combination - pink and brown. It is common knowledge that pink diamonds are on one side of the rarity scale while brown diamonds are on the other (pinks are rare and browns are more common). This means that the result of adding a pink to the brown will make it more expensive while adding brown to the pink will make it cheaper. And in any case, a brown pink diamond is by far more expensive than a pink brown diamond.
Diamond Education
This is not the case here! Since both colors are similar, it doesn't make much difference if the diamond at hand is a pink purple diamond or a purple pink (though purple diamonds are harder to find). It doesn't even matter if the secondary hues are defined as pinkish or purplish. With these, the actual diamond, its basic criteria and appearance are setting most of the value (not the fact it is purple pink or pink purple).
Make no mistakes. In most cases and even in this case - pure color is still generally better. A pure pink diamond or a pure purple diamond will be more valuable than a diamond that is a combination of the two.
The Third Color That Ruined
While the second color doesn’t affect too much on the pricing… the third does. Not all color combinations really exist – you won't find a blue pink purple diamond. The common third color modifiers for these is either brown or gray. Both are much weaker colors and cause a price reduction – especially the brown.
